We recently had the pleasure of working on a special commission for a custom men's pouch, and we wanted to share a behind-the-scenes look at the process. This project was a perfect example of how we bring a client's vision to life, from initial concept to the final, handcrafted piece.
The client's request was for a stylish and functional pouch made from durable Saffiano leather. The key features they wanted included a detachable wrist strap for versatility, a secure zipper closure, and six internal card pockets for organization.
The Process
Our process always begins with meticulous planning. We start by hand-cutting each piece of the Saffiano leather to the exact dimensions required. As you can see from our workshop photos, every component is laid out with precision on our cutting mat before we begin assembly. The texture of the Saffiano leather—known for its distinctive crosshatch pattern and scratch resistance—is beautiful to work with.
Next, we moved on to the interior. The client's request for six card pockets meant careful stitching to ensure a slim profile while maintaining durability. We chose French Chèvre leather for the interior and stitched each pocket divider by hand, a process that requires a steady hand and an eye for detail. The goal is to create a clean, minimalist interior that is both elegant and highly functional.
One of the most satisfying parts of the process is seeing the piece come together. We installed a high-quality Riri zipper, chosen for its smooth operation and robust feel. The zipper pull was crafted from the same Saffiano leather, ensuring a cohesive and premium look. The detachable wrist strap was then attached with durable hardware, allowing the pouch to be carried in hand or tucked away easily.
The Final Product
The final result is a testament to the power of custom craftsmanship. The finished pouch perfectly combines style and utility. The sleek black Saffiano leather gives it a refined, modern look, while the thoughtful interior design and detachable strap make it incredibly practical for everyday use.
